As enforced restrictions on working have meant that many businesses have had no alternative but to find new ways of working. In many cases, remote working has become the new norm, bringing with it the challenge of how to keep employees engaged and motivated.
Terms such as ‘Social distancing’, Socially Isolate’, ‘Furloughed’ may have deeper and longer-lasting effects. We have come to accept a lack of physical contact with colleagues, and even friends and family. However, one of the key elements at risk in this is ‘trust’ and as such, this could well be in need of some urgent repair.
In Coaching with CARE element 3: Respect, we mentioned the importance of establishing regular times for check-ins with both individually and as a team. In addition, keeping employees and team members in the loop, inviting feedback, listening to ideas and concerns, ensuring open communication of business plans, encouraging open discussion and debate, being clear on expectations and recognising contributions and achievements can all help to enhance engagement during this time where isolation is being experienced in new ways for so many.
